I can imagine that Jim got into fights with Scroop more often than it was shown in the movie.Hey, c`mon, that spider psycho doesn`t need much provocation to get furious.
 After another dust-up Silver finds him injured in the galley. Silver : "Ye gotta stop starting fights with that spider, lad! Ye could have been killed!" Jim : "Whatever...as if anyone would care..." By the way, I`m just listening to the "Silver comforts Jim"-part of my TP-soundtrack.It`s so sad...I LOVE it!
